How to write a prompt that works

Start with the subject. "A red fox", "a lighthouse on a cliff", "two goldfish face to face".
Then the place and moment. "On a rainy neon-lit street at night", "at dawn", "in an underwater garden".
Name the medium. Watercolor, thick impasto oil painting, ink drawing, mixed-media collage, cinematic photo. The pear and the watercolor city in the examples come from just a few words like these.
Set the light and colors. "Warm light", "golden hour", "plum and gold tones", "soft pastel hues".
Be specific. "A ginger cat asleep on a stack of books" beats "a cat". Long, detailed descriptions are fine: the subway example is a whole paragraph.
