How to describe a character

Start with who. Species, age and role: "an elderly elf librarian", "a teenage space mechanic", "a friendly swamp monster".
Then face and hair. Eye color, scars, freckles, hairstyle: "long blonde hair in four thick braids, freckles".
Outfit and gear. What they wear and carry: "denim overalls with leather harness belts, tool pouches".
Pose, mood and place. "Seated against a rusted wall, confident, focused expression."
